Salem celebrates longtime members

Published: Friday, May 9, 2014 5:30 a.m. CST

Salem Lutheran Church in Sycamore honored parishioners marking 50 or more years of membership since their Confirmation or transfer on May 4. The event coincided with the observation of Salem’s 144th anniversary as a congregation. Each service included a blessing and prayer litany and those honored were given a certificate and candle, along with encouragment from Interim Pastor Robert C. Kinnear to “keep the light of their faith shining.”  Seventy-five Salem men and women were honored for 50 to 85 years of confirmed membership. Salem Lutheran is a congregation of the ELCA located at 1145 DeKalb Ave.
