Prep Roundup: Ullmark, G-K softball top Sycamore

Genoa-Kingston pitcher Baylie Ullmark allowed only three hits and only one walk in a 10-1 softball win over Sycamore on Monday afternoon in Genoa.

Ullmark struck out three Spartans, and was 3 for 4 at the plate with four RBIs. Rachel Joos went 2 for 3 and Lexi Howie and Kelly Hensley had triples for the Cogs (12-6).

"We got down 1-0, but we bounced right back and got the bats going well tonight," G-K coach Mike Lauer said.

Lyndsey Coddington went 2 for 3 with a double and a run scored for Sycamore.

Kowalski Ks 10 in Barbs' win: DeKalb defeated Morris, 6-5, behind 10 strikeouts from pitcher Katie Kowalski. Rachael Johnson, Morgan Newport and Taylor Garland each had two hits for the Barbs (16-5, 4-2 Northern Illinois Big 12 East).

"We had a rough day defensively today committing four errors," DeKalb coach Jeff Davis said. "I feel like we got lucky today, and when you have a good season, you have to get lucky every now and then and today we did."


Barbs get conference win: Jared Johnson went 2 for 4 with a home run, three runs scored and two RBIs for DeKalb in a 9-4 win over Yorkville. Patrick Aves went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and Logan Haring was 2 for 4 with two RBIs.

Austin Hop got the victory, allowing three earned runs in a complete game.

DeKalb is 9-9 and 2-8 in the NI Big 12 East.

Timberwolves top LaMoille: Trevor Guerra threw a complete-game shutout for Indian Creek in a 5-0 win over LaMoille, giving up one hit and striking out six. Jake Wieseler was 2 for 3 with two doubles for the Timberwolves.

Hawks no-hit Earlville-Leland: Hiawatha beat Earlville-Leland, 12-1, as Nick Doolittle and Will Corn threw a combined no-hitter. The duo walked five and struck out 14, with Doolittle earning the win.

Doolittle went 3 for 3 with two doubles and an RBI, Adam Spear was 3 for 4 with an RBI and Bart Hall was 2 for 4 with three RBIs. Corn finished 2 for 3 with three RBIs.


H-BR tops G-K: Jacqueline Madden had two goals for Hinckley-Big Rock in a 2-1 win over Genoa-Kingston. Ashley Grimm had the lone goal for G-K (12-6-1) with an assist from Maggie Boque.

"The second half I thought we got outplayed by Hinckley," G-K coach Randy Tate said. "They seemed to want it a little more than we did. They got to the ball first on the 50-50 balls and maintained better possession than we did."


Barbs top Foxes: DeKalb beat Yorkville, 3-2, as the Barbs won all three doubles matches.

Micah Fagerstrom and Ravi Patel earned a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles, while Nate Newman and Sean Connors won, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 2 doubles. The Barbs' team of Justin Peele and Gabe Olade won, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, at No. 3 doubles.

DeKalb is 10-7 and 5-2 in the NI Big 12 East.
