To the Editor:
Over 500,000 voters in Illinois signed two separate petitions to provide all the voters of Illinois with the opportunity to decide how they would like the state’s representative districts to be laid out and for how long their representatives should hold office.
According to the Daily Chronicle (Thursday, May 1, page 1) the “Democratic Party of Illinois, which is chaired by powerful House Speaker Michael Madigan, has already filed a lawsuit … to keep both questions from appearing on the ballot.” One should wonder why anyone would question allowing the people to decide these important issues regarding state government.
The people of Illinois must be afforded the opportunity to vote on these issues. When you go to the polls in November, remember who would attempt to block your rights.
