CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) — Champaign police say an 8-year-old child carried a loaded magazine for a 9 mm handgun to a local elementary school.

The Champaign Police Department said in a news release Monday that the magazine fell out of the child's coat pocket during recess on Friday at Booker T. Washington Elementary School in Champaign. The child didn't have a gun and no one was hurt.

The release said detectives obtained a search warrant and searched a home where they found more ammunition as well as drug paraphernalia.

Police spokeswoman Rene Dunn said no one has been arrested but detectives are still investigating. The department said it is also working with the Champaign school district and the state Department of Children and Family Services as it investigates.
