The Sycamore baseball team hit four home runs and had seven extra base hits in a 17-5 five-inning win over Rochelle which gave the Spartans a series sweep.

Nathan Haacker was 2 for 3 with two home runs and four RBIs for the Spartans (15-3, 7-2 Northern Illinois Big 12 East), and now has eight homers on the season. Cooper Vinz went 1 for 2 with a home run and two RBIS while Michael Swanberg was 2 for 4 with a home run. Austin Jacox was 2 for 2 with two doubles while Ian Kidd finished with two RBIs.

Colan Treml earned the win, giving up one earned run in four innings of work. He improved to 3-1 while giving up three hits and striking out eight.

The Spartans are now 15-3 and 7-2 in the Northern Illinois Big 12 East.

"Our hitters are just doing exactly what we ask them to do," Sycamore coach Jason Cavanaugh said. "Rochelle's pitchers have struggled this year, but nobody else is putting up runs like this."

'Skins take series from Barbs: Morris beat DeKalb, 15-3 in five innings to take the three-game set from the Barbs.

Foxes top Knights: Yorkville beat Kaneland, 11-1. Tyler Carlson went 1 for 2 with a double and an RBI for the Knights (11-6, 7-2 Northern Illinois Big 12 East). Nathan Hopkins took the loss, falling to 3-1.

Barbs top Hubs: Sarah Friedlund went 2 for 2 with three RBIs and her first home run of the year in the DeKalb softball team's 10-0, five-inning win over Rochelle.

Morgan Newport earned the win, finishing with six strikeouts. She allowed one hit and walked five batters. Newport improved to 6-2 on the season.

The Barbs are now 12-5 and 5-2 in the Northern Illinois Big 12 East. DeKalb will play Sycamore tonight at 7 p.m. at Northern Illinois' Mary M. Bell Field.

Spartans fall: Taylor Aasen was 2 for 2 with a double in Sycamore's 11-1 loss to Yorkville. Paige Bjork finished 1 for 2.

Knights hold on for win: Kaneland and Morris both erupted for big innings in Thursday's Northern Illinois Big 12 East softball game.

The Knights were the only team, however, to exhale with a win.

Kaneland held on for an 8-6 victory after the Redskins scored each of their runs in the bottom of the sixth.

"It got tense at the end," Knights coach Brian Willis said. "The rain and the cold, we kind of let them back into it. A couple base hits and walks and we threw in a couple errors, and there they were."

Kaneland (10-9, 2-2 NI Big 12 East) created early breathing room with a five-run fifth. Lanie Callaghan opened the scoring with a two-run single before Haley Contorno punctuated the rally with a three-run home run.

Knights win: Kiandra Powell had three goals for Kaneland in a 4-0 win over Morris. Delaney Stryczek had the other goal. Holly Collingbourne had two assists while Madi Jurcenko had one for the Knights (10-1-1, 5-0-1 NI Big 12 East).

Spartans fall: Jordyn Shultz went 1 for 3 for Sycamore in a 7-0 loss to Ottawa. Rachel Reifsteck took the loss for the Spartans, who are now 4-10.
