Quinn appoints permanent DCFS director

SPRINGFIELD — Gov. Pat Quinn has named a permanent director to lead the Department of Children and Family Services.

The Democratic governor on Tuesday promoted interim director Bobbie Gregg to a permanent post as head of the state's child welfare agency. Prior to serving as interim director, she was a deputy chief for DCFS. She has also served as an assistant attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice.

Gregg is the fourth agency director since 2013.

Arthur Bishop, who was the previous department head, resigned in February after reports of previous legal problems at a social services agency in Chicago. Bishop is accused of stealing $9,000 from clients. He denies the allegations.

Quinn says Gregg's legal and administrative experience will help her lead the agency at a critical time.
