MALTA – Officials are investigating what caused a fire that knocked out power to Kishwaukee College and 21 other locations Tuesday afternoon.

A fire atop a utility pole near Malta Road and Lincoln Highway cut power in the area about 11:50 a.m. Tuesday, although service was restored by 1:20 p.m., ComEd spokesman Paul Callighan said. Crews were working to replace the burnt pole and make permanent wire repairs Tuesday.

Kishwaukee College canceled afternoon classes, but evening classes went on as planned.
