Benefit to be held for Ethan Slinkard

Published: Monday, April 28, 2014 5:30 a.m. CST

A benefit to secure medical treatment for local child Ethan Slinkard will be Saturday at the Genoa VFW, and the family is currently accepting donations.

Ethan, who was born at 26 weeks old, was diagnosed with mitochondrial disease and having symptoms of Leigh syndrome after he turned 3. There is no cure for Leigh syndrome, but his family wants to provide him with hyperbaric treatments – which use elevated levels of oxygen – in hopes they will one day be able to hear Ethan talk, walk and eat on his own again.

Donations would help pay for the treatments, gas, hotel bills and an at-home chamber for Ethan.

To donate, visit www.gofundme.com/ethanslinkard. The benefit will be from 4 p.m. to midnight at the Genoa VFW, 311 S. Washington St., Genoa.
