Kaneland boys track finished in first place at the Peterson Prep Invitational on Saturday in Maple Park with 140 points. DeKalb was second with 66, and Sycamore finished in third with 63.
Dion Hooker won the 100-meter dash (11.17) and 200-meter dash (22.73) for Sycamore. Logan Wright was first in the high jump (6-05) for the Spartans.
Jared Smith won the 800 for DeKalb (2:00.23). The Barbs’ 4x100 relay of Jaylen Cole, Dre Brown, Eriq Torrey and Drew Paszotta took first at 43.26, while the 4x200 relay of Brown, Torrey, Paszotta and James Robinson won with a time of 1:30.46.
Kaneland’s winners were Brock Robertson in the 110 hurdles (15.75) and 300 hurdles (40.30), 4x800 relay (Andrew Lesak, Luis Acosta, Kyle Carter, Nathaniel Kucera, 7:50.27), Dylan Kuipers in the pole vault (14-0), Ben Barnes in the long jump (22-01.5), Nate Dyer in the shot put (52-08) and discus (162-09.5), as well as the 4x100 relay of John Delach, Cody Delarme, Brett Hansen and Brandon Cruz (46.15).
Gavin, McNanna win for H-BR: Hinckley-Big Rock’s T.J. Gavin won the 110 hurdles (17.46) at the Rockford Christian Invitational. Zach McNanna won the 300 hurdles (45.36) and also was the runner in the 110 hurdles for the Royals.
H-BR totaled 33 points to finish in sixth place of eight teams.
Spartans sweep: Sycamore swept a doubleheader from Rockford Jefferson on Saturday, winning both games 13-1.
In Game 1, Cooper Vinz had two hits and three RBIs for the Spartans, while Ian Kidd finished with three hits and Michael Swanberg added two. Zack Versluys was the winning pitcher, striking out seven hitters.
Alex Swedberg had three hits for the Spartans in Game 2, as Sycamore pounded out 13 hits as a team. Nate Gross had two hits, while Nate Haacker finished with two RBIs. Daniel Coovert had two RBIs and walked twice.
Mark Skelley got the win, improving to 2-0.
“We got everybody some playing time today,” Sycamore coach Jason Cavanaugh said. “It was good to get a couple nice easy wins.”
Sycamore is now 12-3.
Hawks, Norsemen split: Newark beat Hiawatha, 8-6, in Game 1 of a doubleheader in a Little Ten Conference game. The Hawks won Game 2, 17-7.
Knights fall: Wheaton Academy beat Kaneland, 3-1, in West Chicago. Joe Laudont was 1 for 3 with an RBI for Kaneland (10-4).
Spartans fall: Prairie Ridge beat Sycamore, 8-4, in a nonconference game. Jordyn Shultz was 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI for the Spartans, while Brooke English finished 2 for 4.
Sycamore is now 4-9.
Knights split: Kaneland split a doubleheader against Geneseo in a Northern Illinois Big 12 crossover in Maple Park. Kaneland won Game 1, 4-3, but lost Game 2, 17-9.
Cogs pull off sweep: Genoa-Kingston swept Mendota in Big Northern Conference doubleheader sweep in Genoa. The Cogs (11-6) won Game 1, 7-1, and won Game 2, 6-5.
Cogs go 2-1 at St. Edward: Genoa-Kingston defeated Westminster Christian, 2-1, and Harvest Academy, 2-0, at the Elgin St. Edward Tournament. The Cogs lost to Streamwood, 3-2.
Nicole Hebel and Ashley Grimm each had two goals on the day for G-K (10-5-1). Maggie Bouque finished with two assists, while Hebel added an assist.
GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD
Spartans 4th, Barbs 6th: Sycamore took fourth at the Harlem Invite. The Spartans had 123 points. DeKalb had 54.
The Barbs’ Kelsey Schrader was first in the 3,200, finishing with a time of 10:59.10. Kara Alvarez won the high jump (5-0).
Lilia Edwards won the long jump for Sycamore (17-0) and Sarah Grant took first in the shot put (35-08.5).
Cogs fifth, Timberwolves sixth at Oregon: Genoa-Kingston placed fifth at Saturday’s Oregon Invite. The Cogs had 40 points.
Brianna Kramer was second in the 300 hurdles for G-K. She finished with a time of 51.92. Carly Fischer was second in the discus for the Cogs at 109-10.
Indian Creek finished with 34 points. Chantel Kyler won the high jump for the Timberwolves. Emily Schilling was third in the 1,600 and fourth in the 800. Alexis VanWhye was third in the 300 hurdles and fifth in the 100 hurdles. VanWhye was also fourth in the shot put.
Hiawatha’s Christen Nordgren was fourth in the 3,200-meter run.
Harrod strong for H-BR: Hinckley-Big Rock’s Audrey Harrod finished second in both the 800 and 1,600 at the Rockford Christian Invitational.
The Royals finished with 62 points to finish in fifth place of 10 teams. Kristen Clark was third in the 800 and the 400.
H-BR’s Sophia Peters was third in the 300 hurdles, and the 4x400 relay team finished second. Courtney Carls was third in the long jump and the triple jump.
DeKalb fourth at invite: DeKalb finished in fourth place at the DeKalb Invite. The Barbs had 13 points. Tristan Draper took sixth at singles for DeKalb.
GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD
Knights win at Wauconda: Kaneland won the Wauconda Invite with 111 points. The Knights’ 800 relay finished in first place at 1:46.40. Lauren Zick won the 200 dash at 25.00, and was first in the long jump at 17-6. Christina Delach won the pole vault (10-0).
