PREP ROUNDUP: DeKalb boys tennis tops Lutheran

The DeKalb boys tennis team defeated Rockford Lutheran, 5-0, on Tuesday. Owen Smith won 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 singles fo the Barbs, while Daniel Gluhovski got a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles.

The Barbs' team of Micah Fagerstrom and Ravi Patel won 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 1 doubles spot. Nate Neuman and Sean Connors earned a 6-3, 6-3 decision at No. 2 doulbes while Josh Harvey and Justin Peele won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 doubles.

DeKalb is now 5-1.


Cogs suffer BNC loss: Brady Huffman gave up zero earned runs and struck out 11 hitters in 6 1/3 innings for Genoa-Kingston at Richmond-Burton, but it wasn't enough as the Cogs suffered a 3-2 loss. G-K falls to 6-7 and 2-1 in Big Northern East play.

Jake Langford went 1 for 2 with a double and a run scored for G-K. Tommy Hansen finished 1 for 3 wtih an RBI and Mikey Semmens went 1 for 2.


Cogs, Crusaders play to draw: Genoa-Kingston and Rockford Lutheran played to a scoreless tie in Rockford in. Alyssa Edwards had the shutout in goal for the Cogs.


Barbs win triangular: DeKalb finished first in a triangular with Sycamore and Morris. The Barbs had 87 points while the Spartans finished with 71.

James Robinson won the 200-meter dash (23.4) and took second in the high jump (5-foot-8) for DeKalb.

Evan Short won the shot put for Sycamore (44-10 1/2) and finished third in the discus (121-4).

DeKalb won the 4x100 relay (43.6), and the Barbs took first in the 4x200 (43.6). Sycamore won the 4x400 (3:47.4) and the 4800 (9:34.3).

Cogs take quad: Genoa-Kingston won a quadrangular with Rockford Lutheran, Somonauk and Hiawatha. The Cogs had six first-place finishers: Nick Barthel (shot put), Kevin McIntyre (discus), Iran Fell (high jump), Marcus Holley (long jump, triple jump, pole vault) and Brent Dehmlow (300 hurdles). The Cogs won all four relays.


Cogs win quad: Genoa-Kingston won a quadrangular over Rockford Lutheran, Hampshire and Somonauk.

The Cogs finished with 87 points. Lutheran had 79.5 while Hampshire had 66.5 and Somonauk had 31.

Carly Fischer won the discus for G-K (112-01), while Katy Foulker took first in the high jump (4-08.10). Felicia Olson took first in the triple jump (33-06) while Hannah Flint won the pole vault (5-06) for the Cogs. Brianna Kramer took first in the 100 dash with a mark of 12.89, while the G-K 4x200 relay of Montana Holley, Carli Schmidt, Jessica Drendel and Carly Fischer took first iwht a mark of 2:06.84.
