Federated Church plans annual thrift sale

Published: Friday, April 25, 2014 5:30 a.m. CDT

The Federated Church in Sycamore will hold its annual Thrift Sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 3.

Sale items will include clothing for all ages, household goods, linens and bedding, electronics, books, knick-knacks, toys and games. Proceeds from the sale will help fund the School Supply Backpack Project. There also will be a “Garden Party” sale with garden plants, herbs, magical wands, mirror strands and many other garden items.

A new addition this year will be a bake sale hosted by the Board of Religious Education. These proceeds will go to the Kids’ Club Camp Fund. Last year 17 young people were able to attend church camp with the help of this fund.

The Thrift Sale at Federated dates back to the 1930s as a means to fund mission outreach. For the past 12 years the church has collected school supplies and provided new back-to-school backpacks filled with supplies to children who are served by the Hope Haven Homeless Shelter in DeKalb, Safe Passage Domestic Violence Shelter in DeKalb, and the Department of Children and Family Services of DeKalb County. Hundreds of local students have been able to start school with a fresh supply of necessary items thanks to this program.

The Thrift Sale is open to the community. The church is located at 612 W. State St. Parking is available at the rear of the building, off of Greeley Street; entrance to the sale is off the parking lot.
