No one injured in DeKalb kitchen fire

DeKalb firefighters walk around the backside of the home at 427 14th St. in DeKalb on Wednesday after they were called for a structure fire at 12:34 p.m. by the occupant of the home. Upon the fire department arrival, there was heavy smoke coming from the rear window.

DeKALB – No one was injured in a fire today in the kitchen of a DeKalb home.

Crews were called to 427 N. 14th St. about 12:28 p.m. today for a report of a structure fire, DeKalb Fire Chief Eric Hicks said. Firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from the kitchen area.

The 911 call was made by the homeowner, Hicks said. Fire damage was limited to the kitchen, but smoke damage occurred throughout the home. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Red Cross was also called to the scene to assist the occupants of the home.
