Panel to discuss ‘Pregnancy, Birth and the First Year’

Published: Monday, April 14, 2014 4:58 p.m. CDT

Are certain symptoms normal with pregnancy? How do I know whether I have post-partum depression? Can I exercise while pregnant? How about after? What services can a birth doula offer? Should I purchase a breast pump now or wait until my baby is born?

Between the local library and the Internet, there are many places for new and expecting moms to find information.

These kinds of questions are why several area practitioners have teamed up to hold Pregnancy, Birth and the First Year: A Panel Discussion. Held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, at Creative Therapeutics in DeKalb, this event promises a relaxing, informal evening filled with information for moms and moms-to-be.

The DeKalb and Sycamore area boasts an abundance of resources for new and expecting moms. The event was created to introduce people to several types of specialists and let people know all the options out there.

The panel consists of Dr. Nichole Wiepert, OB/Gyn, Prairie Point Obstetrics; Katherine Harris, PhD, psychotherapist, LivingRite; Kim Wheaton, Certified Birth Doula; Jamie Justice, PT; and Michelle Schlieben, Certified Lactation Specialist from Lehan Drugs. In addition to the panelists, there will be information available regarding fitness programs, acupuncture, and breast pump rental and purchase. The event is sponsored by Land of Learning Child Care Center.

Refreshments will be served, and there also will be a raffle. This event is free and open to all. Nursing babies are welcome.

Creative Therapeutics is located at 400 E. Hillcrest Drive in DeKalb.
