Letter from the parents of Tim Getzelman and Lexi Weber

Published: Saturday, April 12, 2014 12:24 a.m. CDT

It has taken 1,146 days for Patricia Schmidt to issue an apology for causing the deaths of our children. From the evening of Feb. 21, 2011, never once has she reached out to our families to express her sympathy or remorse. Instead, she chose to issue a public apology, thus drawing attention to herself.

Per her defense, it is her doctor’s fault she was driving; she took no personal responsibility. It is her attorney’s fault she couldn’t apologize; again she takes no personal responsibility.

The citizens of DeKalb County will be relieved to know that she has publicly stated she “will not be applying for a driver’s license, ever.”

We will continue to honor our children’s memory by changing the laws. Perhaps when the time is appropriate, Patricia Schmidt will agree to testify in support of the “Tim & Lexi Law,” thus making all families safer in the state of Illinois.
