DeKALB — A Northern Illinois University staff member died of natural causes Wednesday morning at the Neptune Hall dormitory, officials said.

Authorities do not suspect foul play, DeKalb County Coroner Dennis Miller said. The victim was a 31-year-old man who was found by his wife about 11:45 a.m. at Neptune Hall dormitory after she came back from lunch, Miller said.

The man had an extensive medical history and was being treated for his health issues, Miller said.

NIU spokesman Paul Palian said the man had worked for the university's housing and dining service since 2010.

The university posted information on the man's death on their Twitter and Facebook pages as well as the safety bulletin to alert students.

"There was a lot of activity around Neptune," Palian said. "We didn't want to worry people."

NIU police, DeKalb Fire Department and ambulances all responded to the scene. University staff held a meeting with students about 5 p.m. Wednesday at Neptune Hall to let them know about available grief counseling, Palian said.
