DeKALB – Eligible Nicor Gas customers may qualify for extreme winter grants until Monday, April 28.

The Nicor Gas Sharing Program launched the Extreme Winter Relief Fund March 24 to help customers because of the bitter cold winter, according to a Nicor Gas news release.

Nicor Gas will provide up to $300 to customers under 65 years of age and $350 for those older than 65 who meet all income and qualifying criteria and have made a payment totaling $75 within the last 60 days of application date.

After April 28, the Salvation Army-administered program will return to its original guidelines and continue to provide a one-time grant to help families, seniors and individuals with disabilities, the release states.

To apply, visit any of 41 local Salvation Army offices, and bring the following documentation: proof of income, proof of residence, proof of $75 payment within the last 60 days and a current Nicor Gas bill.

Other financial assistance and bill payment options are available by calling 888-642-6748. For more information, visit www.nicorgas.com.
