Grimm scores twice in Cogs’ win

The Genoa-Kingston girls soccer team defeated Rockford Christian Life, 3-1, Friday at home.

Junior Ashley Grimm opened the scoring two minutes into the second half and Nikki Hebel followed with a goal just more than a minute later. Grimm sealed the win with her second goal of the match after Rockford Christian Life cut the Cogs’ lead to 2-1on a penalty kick in the middle of the second half.

Hebel, Grimm and Morgana Gandsey each recorded an assist in the win.

“After playing back-to-back games in unseasonable, windy weather, we are glad to get the win,” G-K coach Randy Tate said. “I asked a lot of the girls this week and they responded well under unfavorable conditions.”

G-K (3-1, 1-1 Big Northern Conference) plays Indian Creek on Monday on the road.
