The Genoa-Kingston girls soccer team beat Rockford Lutheran, 2-1, Thursday at home, giving the Crusaders their second Big Northern Conference loss in the past nine seasons.

Nikki Hebel scored both goals for G-K (2-1, 1-1 BNC West) and was assisted both times by Viviana Beltran.

G-K held off Lutheran, which scored with four minutes remaining in the match, to claim the victory.

“It was definitely a total team effort. The fullbacks played strong and limited their attacks,” G-K coach Randy Tate said. “The forwards worked well together to create opportunities for each other, and the mids did a nice job of controlling possession to get the play forward in the attack.

“This was a great win for us against a quality team.”
