Ill. trucking company ordered to close after crash

Published: Thursday, April 3, 2014 1:13 p.m. CDT

CHICAGO – Federal regulators have ordered a northern Illinois trucking company to shut down, saying a fatal crash investigation found widespread safety violations.

Wednesday's order called DND International Inc. an "imminent hazard to public safety." The company is based in Naperville, outside Chicago. A woman who answered the phone Thursday said the company was closed and hung up.

In January, one of the company's drivers crashed a tractor-trailer into a stopped Illinois State Police cruiser, killing an Illinois Tollway worker and injuring a state trooper.

Investigators say the driver did not get the legally required amount of rest and falsified his logbook of work hours.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration says its investigators found instances in which seven other drivers working for the company falsified log entries.
