DeKalb girls soccer lost a tough match to Rockford Boylan, 2-1, at home, playing its first game in two weeks. The teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half.
Nat Vaughn-Low scored the lone goal for DeKalb (1-1), which travels Saturday to Freeport.
Indian Creek rolls: Indian Creek won its season opener with a 3-0 victory at home over Dixon.
Renee Corriveau scored two goals in the first half, both coming off rebound opportunities.
Madison Spooner scored off a pass from Madison Russell at the 75-minute mark in the second half to close the scoring for Indian Creek (1-0).
Stillman tops G-K: Genoa-Kingston fell to Stillman Valley, 2-1, in a Big Northern Conference road game.
Stillman Valley went up 2-0 before Viviana Beltran’s goal in the 57th minute off an assist from Abbey Rasmussen.
“I don’t know if it was the cold, the wind, or something else, but we came out very sluggish today,” G-K coach Randy Tate said. “We made two exactly the same mistakes that Stillman jumped on and scored.
“On the positive side, I thought we did better in the second half and didn’t just give up. We had a nice set of combination plays that ended with a goal.”
G-K (1-1, 0-1) plays at Rockford Lutheran today.
Royals draw: Hinckley-Big Rock battled Aurora Central Catholic to a scoreless draw. It was the Royals’ second shutout of the season.
H-BR (1-1-1) will play Indian Creek on Thursday.
DeKalb falls: DeKalb lost to Hononegah, 6-5. Hononegah scored three runs in the sixth and three runs in the seventh for the win.
“We played really well for five innings, but ran out steam offensively and on the mound in the last few innings and it cost us the game,” DeKalb coach Jacob Howells said.
Logan Haring was 3 for 3 at the plate while John Crosby pitched 5⅔ innings, giving up three runs and had six strikeouts.
G-K wins: Genoa-Kingston defeated Harvard, 6-1, on the road in a Big Northern Conference East matchup.
Brady Huffman pitched six innings and struck out 12 while only allowing three hits and zero earned runs.
Will Crozier and Jake Langford each went 1 for 3 with a double and a run scored while Mike Kuhn was 1 for 4 with a run.
H-BR loses: Aurora Central Catholic defeated Hinckley-Big Rock,14-4.
Oswego East edges DeKalb: DeKalb fell to Oswego East, 8-7, in a dual match.
Madi Alger and Alyssa Wagner each won in two games at No. 6 and 7 singles respectively. Jennifer Martinez also got a win at No. 9 singles for the Barbs.
Clara Marchini and Cierra Grant rallied to win in three games at No. 2 doubles while Rachel Kelly and Alger teamed up to pull out a three-game win at No. 3 doubles.
“We looked flat. We did not play well,” DeKalb badminton coach Duane Cowley said. “But Jennifer Martinez, first time playing varsity, she got a strong win at No. 9 singles.”
TRACK AND FIELD
Two T’wolves win events: Indian Creek junior Chantel Kyler won the high jump with a mark of 5 feet, 0 inches at Sandwich. Evan Ostrander won the 3,200-meter run with a time of 11 minutes, 34.27 seconds.
