Ill. village's ex-trustee gets probation for fraud

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) — A southwestern Illinois village's former trustee who pleaded guilty to health care fraud has been ordered to spend five years on probation and repay nearly $65,000.

U.S. District Judge David Herndon sentenced 39-year-old Darron Suggs on Tuesday in East St. Louis. That's where he pleaded guilty in November.

Suggs admitted he filed fraudulent Medicaid bills on behalf of two people receiving federal aid for home health care. He falsely claimed he acted as their personal health care assistant for seven years beginning in 2006.

Suggs resigned as a Washington Park trustee just days before pleading guilty. He also served as a St. Clair County probation officer but left that job in July.
