Race season starts with Neighbors' House 5K

Published: Monday, March 31, 2014 2:31 p.m. CDT

The 10th annual Neighbors’ House 5K Run will take place at 8 a.m. Sunday, April 27, at Hopkins Park in DeKalb.

“This is a great way for runners to begin the race season right here in our community. Or, a good end of hibernation for first-time runners. Either way, it’s a great way to help students and families in our community,” said Kyle White, director of Neighbors’ House.

The 3.1-mile course starts and finishes in Hopkins Park, and utilizes the nature trail. The top male and female race finishers will receive a medal and a gift certificate. There also will be medals for top male and female finishers in various age categories.

All participants are eligible for the post-race raffle, which includes gift certificates from local businesses.

Runners and walkers can register online via www.neighborshouse.org or email Paul Gin at nh@neighborshouse.org.

The pre-registration fee is $25, by April 14, and race day registration costs $30. All pre-registrants receive a T-shirt. Race-day registrants will receive T-shirts while supplies last.

The Neighbors’ House 5K is being sponsored by Edward Jones, A-Tec Ambulance, The Daily Chronicle, Suter Co. Inc., Northern Rehab & Sports Medicine, DeKalb Mechanical, Kishwaukee Community Hospital, Go Self-Insured and others.

All the proceeds from the race will benefit Neighbors’ House literacy and academic enrichment programs throughout DeKalb County.
