Dealing with Perception and Judgment: Your Own and Others

It’s human nature to make judgments about ourselves and others. These judgments can negatively affect how you interact with those around you. Join Lynette Swedberg, advanced practice nurse, to learn how to recognize judgment and have compassion for yourself and others. Eat to Beat Heart Disease, Part 5: Replacing Saturated Fats with Healthy Fats

Understanding, Healing and Preventing Traumatic Stress in Children

Children respond to traumatic stress in many ways. This stress response can be triggered by any frightening event the child encounters, such as: a car accident, violence, abuse or loss. If you are concerned about interacting with children who have experienced trauma, this workshop provides the tools and understanding to respond and support them in a way that may minimize the negative impact of the event and promote healing and recovery. You will learn how children experience and react to the impact of traumatic events and how you can prevent trauma. Parents, grandparents, caregivers, teachers, healthcare professionals and first responders are welcome to attend. Heartsaver AED/CPR

The American Heart Association Heartsaver AED course teaches lay rescuers when to phone 911, how to give CPR, how to use an AED (automated external defibrillator), and how to provide relief of choking. This course covers adult and child CPR and AED and Infant CPR. A course completion card will be given following successful completion of the course. Heartsaver AED/CPR is from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, at KishHealth System Emergency Medical Services, 2727 Sycamore Road, DeKalb. Cost is $45 per person. Registration is required. New Baby Care

A class for parents, grandparents, and other caregivers to learn the basics of newborn care. Bathing, diapering, feeding, sleeping and comforting techniques to soothe a crying baby are just a few of the topics that will be explored. Breastfeeding Success

Getting off to a good start is vital to breastfeeding success. This program provides guidance for moms-to-be on the importance of breastfeeding, where to find the evidence-based information and support and how labor decisions can impact your breastfeeding experience. Spouses are strongly encouraged to attend. Breastfeeding Success is from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, in the Kish Hospital Roberts Conference Center, DeKalb. Cost is $15 per couple. Diabetes: Self-Management 

Learn the latest in diabetes care with an emphasis on the positives. Take the initiative now to control your diabetes and not allow it to control you. Prepared Childbirth Weekend Express 

This condensed Prepared Childbirth class for the expectant mom and her labor companion provides the same basic information as the Prepared Childbirth class, but offers the convenience of completing it in one day. Prepared Childbirth Weekend Express is from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, at the Valley West Medical Office Building, Sandwich. Cost is $50 per couple. Registration is required.
