Concert benefits Best Buddies Friendship Walk

Published: Thursday, March 27, 2014 8:39 a.m. CDT

Northern Illinois University’s female a cappella group, the Northern Notes, will host a benefit concert for the Best Buddies Friendship Walk at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 3.

Best Buddies is a nonprofit organization that facilities one-to-one friendships between people with and without disabilities. The Friendship Walk is a movement through Best Buddies, where teams walk to promote leadership and opportunity for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The Northern Notes will sing a variety of music in the hopes of drawing the attention of the community to this cause. The Huskie Hunks, NIU’s male a Cappella group, also will appear. The concert will be held in room 173 of the NIU Music Building, which is located on Lucinda Avenue. Parking is available across the street.

Admission is free, but the performing groups will be collecting donations, one hundred percent of which will go toward the Friendship Walk.

Community members, students and families alike are encouraged to show their support for the cause by coming out, listening to some music and making a donation.
