Hospital: Passengers had 'whiplash-type' injuries

PARK RIDGE, Ill. (AP) — A suburban Chicago hospital says it treated seven passengers for minor "whiplash-type" injuries from an early morning train derailment.

Evonne Woloshyn is a spokeswoman for Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.

She says most of the injured passengers had been released by 8:30 a.m. and the rest were expected to be released later in the day.

She said the injuries included neck and head pain.

The Blue Line train derailed around 3 a.m. on Monday as it pulled into the station at O'Hare International Airport. Officials are investigating what prompted the accident, which sent at least one car up a nearby escalator.

The Chicago Fire Department says 32 people were transported to area hospitals. None of their injuries are considered life threatening.
