Genoa Main Street offers eighth annual scholarship

Genoa Main Street is sponsoring another scholarship race for seniors at Genoa-Kinston High School this year, thanks to donations from 17 Genoa businesses funding the scholarship. The winning senior will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship to assist with the cost of attending a four-year college, community college, trade school or other “529” approved program.

The scholarship is named in memory of Char Miller, a Main Street volunteer who worked with the scholarship program in previous years. This is the eighth year the scholarship program has been offered.

The scholarship program was designed to encourage residents to shop locally and conduct business in Genoa. Shoppers vote for applicants by making purchases locally. Voting continues throughout March, ending on April 15.

Generally, each dollar spent equals one vote with a maximum of $200 per transaction. Votes may be cast at the 14 following businesses: Assured Appliance, Awe Insurance, Corner Grill on Main, Cutters & Co. Family Hair Care, Everything Floral, Genoa Pharmacy, Heartland Bank and Trust, Hummingbird, J’Studio/Zumba Fitness, Kingston Mutual Insurance, Pete’s Castle Marathon, Specialty Gifts, State Farm Insurance and Victoria’s Crossing.

Applicant’s names and information are posted at the participating businesses. This year’s seniors competing for the scholarship are listed below, along with their future education plans.
