Body of young girl found in suburban Chicago woods

RIVERDALE – Investigators say an autopsy is expected on the remains of a young girl whose body was found this weekend in the woods near the Chicago suburb of Riverdale.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office says the girl is thought to be about three years old. Her remains were found Sunday afternoon by someone walking near a wooded area south of Chicago.

Authorities say an autopsy is expected Monday.

The girl's name hasn't been released.

Riverdale police along with the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force are investigating her death.

Riverdale is about 17 miles south of downtown Chicago.
