Northern Illinois University President Doug Baker and his wife, Dana Stover, will be the 2014 Tropical Tails honorary chairs.
Baker took the reins at NIU in July of last year. Though Baker and Stover are relatively new to the DeKalb area, they are not new to the world of pets, having run the gambit from guinea pigs to cats. They said their kids have always wanted a dog, but they travel too much to adopt one.
“We are proud to serve as the honorary chairpersons for the 2014 Tropical Tails event. TAILS is a true asset to our community through the valuable and unique services it provides to both animals and humans. We look forward to this year’s Tropical Tails and are greatly honored to be a part of it,” Stover said in a news release.
Tropical Tails is TAILS Humane Society’s largest annual fundraiser. This dinner, live and silent auction event provides funding to support the care of homeless pets. The live event will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. April 12 at Faranda’s in DeKalb. The online auction opened March 1. Online auction items range from a signed Carrie Underwood guitar to Blackhawks memorabilia and vacation getaways. Many more items will be available during the live event’s live and silent auctions.
To participate in the online auction or to purchase tickets for the event, go to www.tailshumanesociety.org. Tickets also can be purchased by sending a check to TAILS Humane Society, 2250 Barber Greene Road, DeKalb, IL 60115. Individual tickets cost $75 and tables of eight cost $600.
