DeKalb RB Brown commits to Illinois
Dre Brown took a visit to the University of Illinois this weekend.
Down in Champaign, the DeKalb junior tailback decided he wanted to spend his collegiate years at Illinois, committing to the school on Friday.
"That's where I'm most comfortable," Brown told the Daily Chronicle. "I want to represent my state ... And just the coaches and the education I'd get at the university.
Brown led the area in rushing accounted for 20 total touchdowns as a junior, helping the Barbs to a 5-5 record and their first playoff berth in four seasons. He was a Daily Chronicle first-team all-area selection.
Illinois offered Brown after his sophomore season. Brown also has offers from Northern Illinois, Indiana, Toledo, Kent State and Western Michigan, and was gaining more interest from numerous BCS schools. Rivals rates Brown as a three-star prospect.
He has family in Springfield and Decatur, which he said was another reason for his commitment to Illinois, a school he had already visited a number of times before this weekend.
Brown is committing early – 2015 national signing day is roughly 11 months away. Brown said he still plans on going to some of the bigger camps this summer, but that he's fully committed to Illinois, and isn't looking at any other schools.
"I've been through the recruiting process since my freshman year, I've seen a lot of schools," Brown said. "This is where I'm more comfortable."
