Plea agreement entered in DeKalb sex abuse case

SYCAMORE – A 25-year-old DeKalb man originally accused of sexually abusing a teenaged girl accepted a plea agreement for aggravated battery Thursday.

Hector Cervantes, of the 1200 block of State Street, was sentenced to 2 1/2 years of probation as part of a negotiated agreement. Prosecutors dropped three counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of someone yonger than 17 that stemmed from incidents in July.

Cervantes will remain in jail as federal authorities review Cervantes' immigration status, said Presiding Judge Robbin Stuckert. Cervantes also will be required to complete a sex offender evaluation by July 9.
