Brady, Dillard still confident in GOP gov bids

CHICAGO — Republican candidates Bill Brady and Kirk Dillard acknowledge they've been seriously outspent and are trailing in some polls in the Illinois governor's race.

But the state senators say they are not worried. They say the same was true weeks before the 2010 GOP primary. And on election day, Brady won and Dillard finished a close second.

As the March 18 primary nears, they say they can defy expectations again.

Dillard says his campaign has gained momentum with endorsements, including one Wednesday from the Illinois Retired Teachers Association. He's hoping some Democrats will pull Republican ballots and vote for him.

Brady says he has support of the conservative base and name recognition from his 2010 contest with Gov. Pat Quinn.

They face businessman Bruce Rauner and Treasurer Dan Rutherford.
