Stohacker: Sky’s the limit for Genoa Chamber
Greetings from the Genoa Area Chamber of Commerce. It is hard to believe that March is just about here! What a long and frigid winter we have had. I hope that you have found ways to enjoy it. Whether it was snowmobiling on our trails, skating on our ice rink or sledding at Russell Woods, we have plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy.
The Genoa Chamber held its 57th annual dinner and meeting Thursday at the Genoa Veterans Home. The event’s theme was “Onward & Upward ... The Sky Is the Limit.” The dinner was an opportunity to connect with members, recognize businesses that are celebrating anniversaries, celebrate award-winning members and cast a vision for the future. We would like to congratulate the 2014 award winners:
• Excellence Award: Edward Jones and Genoa Pharmacy
• Outstanding Ambassador of the Year Award: Tricia Wagner of Servpro of DeKalb
• Ambassador of the Year Award: Genoa-Kingston FFA
• Dave Tobinson Award: Josh Kubiak of Edward Jones
The featured speakers were Jason Anderson of Rochelle and Mim Evans with Northern Illinois University, and the meal was catered by Premier Catering. Everyone in attendance was entered in a drawing to win a flight over Genoa, donated by Aero Lake Estates, and an introductory flight lesson, donated by Poplar Grove Airport. It was a wonderful and motivational evening with more than 100 members in attendance. Together we can reach new heights ... onward and upward!
The chamber is excited to host its 7th annual Home and Business Expo from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 8 at Genoa Kingston High School. This is a great opportunity to get out of the house and see what local businesses have to offer all under one roof. It also is a chance for businesses to connect with community members.
There will be more than 50 booths featuring area businesses and organizations, food concessions and great raffle prizes for all who attend this free event. This year’s raffle prizes include a 51-inch Plasma Television sponsored by Alan Browne, a one-night stay at the Ludlow Mansion Bed and Breakfast in Monroe, Wis., a Chicago White Sox basket, a Chicago Cubs basket, a free flight over Genoa donated by Aero Lake Estates and a children’s mountain bike sponsored by James Mechanical. For information on the expo, visit www.genoacc.com or call the chamber office at 815-784-2212.
Thank you to everyone who has welcomed me with open arms to the chamber. You have helped me to feel right at home in the position of executive director. I am excited for this opportunity and look forward to the future together!
