NIU baseball loses season opener

The Northern Illinois baseball team opened the 2014 season with a 3-2, 10-inning loss to Minnesota at Camelback Ranch in Glendale, Ariz.

The Gophers scored the winning run on a bases-loaded fielder's choice.

NIU got on the board with Justin Fletcher tripled in Chris Divarco in the third. The Huskies got their second run in the eighth when Tommy Hook scored on a 1-4-3 double play.

Eli Anderson started on the mound for NIU, and threw seven innings while allowing just three hits and one run.

The two teams continue their three-game series at 2 p.m. CT Saturday.
