Teen held in botched Chicago robbery of officer

CHICAGO — A teenager charged in a botched Chicago robbery that left one suspect dead has been ordered held in lieu of $1 million bail.

During Monday night's robbery attempt, three people approached an off-duty officer at a gas station on the city's South Side. When one of them demanded a at gunpoint, the off-duty Cook County Sheriff's sergeant pulled his own weapon and shot the 16-year-old in the head. The other two suspects fled. One remains at large.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports 17-year-old Devante Graham was arrested and charged with robbery. He's also charged with murder based on the legal theory that defendants can be held accountable for the death of an accomplice.

Graham's attorney, Donna Rotunno, says evidence against her client is mostly circumstantial.

He's charged as an adult.
