CHICAGO — The Cook County Medical Examiner's office says there have been 20 cold-related deaths so far this season.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports the latest death was a 79-year-old from the Chicago suburb of Burbank.

An autopsy shows Elieser DeJesus died Monday from complications of hypothermia, cold exposure and coronary artery disease.

His death was ruled an accident.

The newspaper says the last time winter-related deaths topped 20 was in 2008-2009, when 23 people died from cold-related causes.

Last winter, 14 cold-related deaths were reported.
