Bailey Gilbert had 15 points for the Sycamore girls basketball team in a 55-48 win over Yorkville on Thursday.
Taiya Hopkins added 14 points for the Spartans and Lauren Goff finished with 10.
Sycamore is 16-6 overall and 7-1 in the Northern Illinois Big 12 East. The Spartans have two games remaining in conference play and will earn at least a share of the conference title should they win both. If DeKalb, which also is 7-1, suffers another loss, Sycamore would win the league championship outright.
T’wolves suffer nonconference loss: Rockford Christian Life beat Indian Creek, 56-44. The Timberwolves fall to 13-11. Indian Creek was held to 13 points but was able to make it interesting with a strong second half.
Knights top Redskins: Caroline Heimerdinger scored 16 points for Kaneland in a 74-67 win over Morris. Kelly Wallner added 15 points for the Knights and Camri Conley added 11. Kaneland is 11-13 and 3-4 in conference play.
Cogs get win: Genoa-Kingston topped Marengo to improve to 6-16 and 2-7 in the Big Northern Conference East Division.
Julie Galauner led the Cogs with 14 points. Andrea Strohmaier finished with 13.
“I thought we played disciplined and had our best defensive effort of the night,” G-K coach Kyle Henkel said. “Hopefully, we can continue this the rest of the year.”
