DeKalb’s Maddy Jouris placed third overall at the Northern Illinois Big 12 girls bowling tournament on Monday.
Jouris rolled a six-game series of 1,247 and finished 44 pins behind Morris’ Jessica Winter, the winner.
DeKalb placed sixth as a team while Sycamore was eighth and Kaneland finished in 10th.
DeKalb’s Kacie Boken rolled a 1,005 series, including a high game of 201. Sycamore’s Kelsey Johnston led the Spartans with a 1,023 series, including a high game of 240 to close the tournament.
“You can see this team is growing. It’s the pains that come with that growing that’s hard to teach young girls to accept,” Sycamore coach Rick Davis said. “We’ll do two things really well and then make a poor mistake, and you try and keep them from getting derailed.”
Sycamore cruises: Sycamore defeated Rochelle, 60-35, in a Northern Illinois Big 12 East home game.
The Spartans (15-6, 6-1 NI Big 12 East) were led by junior Bailey Gilbert’s 24 points, including six 3-pointers. Lauren Goff also had 14 points in the win, including three 3-pointers.
T’wolves win: Indian Creek (13-10) defeated Pecatonica on the road, 47-32, in a nonconference matchup.
H-BR rolls: Hinckley-Big Rock defeated Ashton-Franklin Center, 41-25, at home. Jacqueline Madden and Lauren Paver each led the Royals (14-12) with 11 points while Karrigan Cowan chipped in with nine.
H-BR plays at St. Edward today.
Cogs fall: Genoa-Kingston lost to Burlington Central, 63-29, in a Big Northern Conference East matchup.
Julie Galauner and Andrea Strohmaier each had seven points for the Cogs (5-15, 1-6 BNC).
“We played really scared the second quarter and gave up 32 points in that quarter alone,” G-K coach Kyle Henkel said. “That second quarter seals it up for us. We have to value the ball a little bit more.”
The Cogs play at Richmond-Burton today.
H-BR loses: Hinckley-Big Rock lost to Paw Paw, 53-34, in the quarterfinals of the Little Ten Tournament at Somonauk.
Eric Phillips scored 22 points to lead the Royals, who will play LaMoille on Thursday in the consolation semifinals.
Hiawatha falls: Hiawatha lost to Leland/Earlville, 55-53, in the first round of the Little Ten Tournament at Somonauk.

DeKalb wins conference: The DeKalb-Sycamore co-op girls gymnastics team won the Independent Conference championship on Saturday.
Meredith Whisenhunt took first place in the vault and bar competitions and also won the all-around title. Alison Morreale won the balance beam and placed third in the all-around competition.
