Off-duty officer shoots Chicago robbery suspect

CHICAGO — An off-duty police officer has shot and killed a man trying to rob a Walgreens store in Chicago.

The officer was using an ATM at the store Monday when he noticed a cashier stuffing cash into a bag.

The officer identified himself and ordered the suspect to his knees.

According to Fraternal Order of Police spokesman Pat Camden, the suspect told the officer, "You're going to have to shoot me," and then reached for a gun.

The officer shot the suspect, who was taken to a hospital in serious-to-critical condition. The suspect later died.

No one else was injured.
