Letter: Demand politicians serve people, not lobbyists
To the Editor:
There is a problem in our country. The corrupting influence of money on our political system is making it impossible to get a government that works for the people. We have come to expect that our elected officials will disappoint us, while catering to more beneficial entities.
We need to come together and fix this affront to our standing as individual American citizens. We need to stop our politicians from fundraising for a majority of their day, and do the people’s work. We need a plan.
The American Anti-Corruption Act aims to put an end to our political conundrum, and is being supported by local Represent.Us IL-16/17 District committees.
The act would essentially limit donations and the revolving-door system, increase transparency, and empower voters, while strengthening the enforcement of the rules. We are bringing this act to the people. We are requiring our representatives to support the act and work to remove this damaging corruption for good.
Large majorities of Americans want to see the amount of money influencing elections reduced, and anti-corruption laws in place. Please join us in restoring our Republic. We are a diverse and nonpartisan group, all are welcome.
