Prep roundup: Sycamore’s Bonnell roles perfect 300

Kyle Bonnell didn’t waste much time getting acclimated to the IHSA boys bowling state tournament.

The Sycamore senior, who qualified for state as an individual last year, rolled a perfect 300 in his first game Friday.

Unfortunately for the Spartans, a hot start did not continue through all six games. Sycamore was in ninth place after the morning series of three games, but finished in a tie for 15th place out of 24 teams, failing to qualify for the second day of the state tournament.

Senior Brendan Fank led the Spartans with a 1,296 series, bowling consistently with all six games above 200. Senior Alex Burchard bowled a 1,237 series, including a high game of 259. Freshman Trevor Smith rolled a 1,163 series and a high game of 267 while Bonnell finished at 1,162.

Sophomore Josh Lueze and freshman Adam Tipps also contributed for the Spartans.

It was the first time Sycamore had qualified for state as a team since 2011. The Spartans won the sectional championship last weekend.
