NIU men's basketball falls to Toledo

Sophomore guard Travon Baker scored 17 points, but it wasn't enough as Northern Illinois men's basketball fell to Toledo, 77-68, on the road on Wednesday.

Sophomore Darrell Bowie had 16 points while Jordan Threloff scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds in the loss.

“I thought that we controlled the tempo early and we had the pace of the game where we wanted,” NIU coach Mark Montgomery said. “Our Achilles heel was the first-half turnovers and missed free throws early in the second half. If we would have made a few more of those free throws it would have been a two- or three-point game, but our guys played as hard as they could against the team that, I think, is the best in the league.”

NIU (7-10, 1-4 MAC) cut the Toledo (16-2, 4-1) lead to 50-45 with 10:51 left and again battled back to within seven points with just less than seven minutes remaining, but Toledo held off the Huskies down the stretch.
