DeKALB – DeKalb police are investigating whether a 29-year-old DeKalb man accused of raping and sexually abusing a girl younger than 13 abused more children.

Tyler Green, a registered sex offender, faces 21 counts of predatory criminal sexual assault in connection with incidents in 2003 and 2004 in DeKalb, court records show. He is being held on $1 million bond and is next due in court Jan. 29.

“We’re still talking to other people, and from the different things we’re being told, we believe there are more victims,” DeKalb detective Lt. Bob Redel said.

Green, of the 400 block of College Avenue, was expected to appear in DeKalb County court Thursday morning through closed-circuit TV in the DeKalb County Jail. He refused to go to court, as defendants have the right to do, although the judge could levy sanctions for refusing to appear in court.

DeKalb police received information a couple of months ago from someone saying they knew a possible victim, Redel said. Police investigated and arrested Green, who would face between 6 to 30 years in prison for each count of which he is convicted.

Green has been in DeKalb County jail for months. He has a pending case from March 17, when he was accused of exposing himself in front of a minor younger than 13 years old, court records show. Public defender Rob Carlson represents Green on that case and on the new sexual assault charges.

But these aren’t the only times Green has been accused of crimes involving children.

In 2011, he was sentenced to three years in prison for child abduction. He tried to lure a child younger than 16 into his car from a Target parking lot Sept. 18, 2010, court records show.

In 2008, he was accused of failing to update his employment information on the sex offender registry and multiple counts of exposing himself – twice at a Sycamore 7-Eleven and once each at Casey’s General Store and the Mobil gas station in Cortland, according to court records.

He was sentenced to 2 years in prison in October 2009 after pleading guilty to violating the sex offender registry law and a single count of indecent exposure.

Green also pleaded guilty in a 2009 case in which he was accused of exposing himself in front of a child, court records show.
