Bond set for five in meth investigation
DeKALB – Five men accused of participating in a conspiracy to cook methamphetamine around DeKalb last year remained in the DeKalb County Jail on $50,000 bond each after their first court appearances Wednesday.
The following men were each charged with methamphetamine conspiracy and methamphetamine conspiracy precursor: Greg L. Hurst, 52, of the 400 block of Harvey Street, DeKalb; Jeremy W. Sebek, 28, of the 400 block of Meadow Clark Circle, Sandwich; Michael J. Dumiak, 30, of the 400 block of North 11th Street, DeKalb; Keith Kifer, 48, of the 100 block of South Chapel Street, Elgin; and Joseph E. Waldrop, 30, of the 100 block of 100 South Chapel Street, DeKalb.
The incidents happened between May and October, police said.
Dumiak also is accused of having methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia on Oct. 30, three days after local police discovered a methamphetamine lab in a room at Travel Inn, 1116 W. Lincoln Highway, authorities said.
Three people were arrested in connection with the initial discovery, including Thomas Wilkinson, 29, of DeKalb, who police suspect was the operation’s ringleader. Wilkinson formally denied the criminal charges Dec. 16 and is next due in court Feb. 18.
The five men charged are accused of buying pseudoephedrine, a strong decongestant, with the intent to manufacture methamphetamine, court records show. If convicted of the most serious charge they face, they could be sentenced to up to seven years in prison. Sebek is next due in court Friday; Hurst, Dumiak and Kifer on Feb. 3; and Waldrop on Feb. 23.
Police are looking to arrest more people they say are involved. A warrant was issued Friday for Jerry M. Whitt, 33, an out-of-state resident with an unknown address, alleging aggravated participation in methamphetamine manufacturing, which is punishable by six to 30 years in prison.
Warrants were also issued for the following:
• Jennifer A. Simpson, 32, address unknown
• Carlos R. Tomas, 24, of the 1200 block of South Madison Street, Marion
• William J. Buell, 32, address unknown
• Allan H. Brown, 46, address unknown

• Matthew J. McDonald, 21, of the 300 block of Spring Avenue, Aurora

DeKalb police listed addresses as unknown for the suspects who do not live at the addresses previously listed for them, said DeKalb detective Lt. Bob Redel. Police are using databases to find valid addresses, Redel said.
