SCOUTING THE ROCKETS: Toledo came into conference play on a roll. The Rockets lost just one game during the nonconference portion of their schedule, falling 93-83 at No. 8 Kansas.
Toledo also was tripped up in its MAC opener, losing 87-76 at Western Michigan, its second loss in a row.
The Rockets’ transfer-heavy roster includes former Wisconsin-Green Bay product, Rian Pearson, who averages 14.9 points to lead the team. Markham native Julius Brown averages 14.1 points a contest, while Loyola (Md.) transfer Justin Drummond is at 13.8.
OUTLOOK: NIU stayed with Ohio for a half Saturday, but struggled to score in the second half of a 65-46 loss. The Huskies shot just 29.8 percent from the field and 22.2 percent from 3-point range. The defeat was the Huskies’ second in a row in MAC play after their lone conference win Jan. 12 at Bowling Green.
Junior guard Aaron Armstead continued his strong play for NIU, with 12 points off the bench.
This will be NIU’s first game against a MAC West opponent. The Huskies head back into crossover play Saturday when they host Buffalo.
