Former Illinois House Speaker Robert Blair dies

CHICAGO — Former Illinois House Speaker W. Robert Blair II has died at age 83.

Hitzeman Funeral Home in the Chicago suburb of Brookfield confirmed Blair's death. The State Journal-Register reports that he was elected to the Illinois House in 1964 and served as speaker from 1971 to 1975. He represented a district in suburban Chicago.

Blair and his wife, Rozanne, had residences in Chicago, Somonauk and Sarasota, Fla. Blair also served as chairman of the Illinois Transportation Study Commission and was in the Air Force. He was the father of nine children.

Blair's wake will be Wednesday. His funeral Mass will be Thursday at St. Louise de Marillac Church in LaGrange Park.
