Published: Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014 5:30 a.m. CDT

DeKALB – St. Mary School will celebrate its centennial Sunday with an open house, including tours of the original St. Mary School on the corner of Fourth Street and Fisk Avenue in DeKalb.

The open house, which also kicks off Catholic Schools Week, will be from noon to 4 p.m.

In 1913, the school opened with 90 students and an inaugural graduating class in 1914 of 12 students. The original school building was used until 1996.

A videographer will be there from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. to record memories of St. Mary School, sponsored by the local chapter of Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

Photographs and memorabilia will be on display and participants may help identifying individuals. Attendees are invited to bring additional photographs and memorabilia the school. These items will be photographed so the owners can keep the originals.

For more information or to sign up for a 10-minute session with the videographer, please contact Alicia Schatteman at aschatteman@comcast.net.
