PREP ROUNDUP: DeKalb boys bowling wins regional, Sycamore advances

The DeKalb boys bowling team won the IHSA DeKalb Regional at Mardi Gras Lanes on Saturday in DeKalb and advanced, along with Sycamore, to the Rockford Boylan Sectional next weekend.

The Barbs finished with a pinfall total of 6,272. DeKalb junior Michael Belluzzi was the regional champion, finishing with 1,383 pins. Ranzy Collins finished with 1,308, good for fifth place. DeKalb's Will Todtz was 10th with 1,278.

Sycamore, the runner-up, finished with a pinfall total of 6,170. Sycamore senior Kyle Bonnell led the Spartans with a total of 1,294.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Barbs split in Rockton: DeKalb went 1-1 at the Hononegah MLK Tournament. The Barbs defeated Mundelein, 78-74, and lost to Normal, 64-34.

Royals fall: IMSA defeated Hinckley-Big Rock, 45-39. Eric Phillips had 14 points for the Royals, who fell to 5-12.

WRESTLING

DeKalb goes winless at Lyons: DeKalb finished 0-3 at the Lyons quad, losing to Conant, Libertyville and Lyons.

Spartans go 1-2 at Sandburg: Sycamore went 1-2 at the Orland Park Sandburg duals. The Spartans defeated Crystal Lake Central, 39-21, while the Spartans lost to Oak Park-River Forest, 66-6. New Trier also defeated Sycamore, 47-21. Sycamore senior Kyle Akins won all three matches.

Genoa-Kingston sixth at Amboy: The Cogs finished sixth at the Amboy Tournament with 97 points. The Cogs had six place winners. Brent Dehmlow was runner-up at 113 pounds.

Knights take 2nd: Kaneland finished second at the Margaret Flott Memorial Tournament in Maple Park with 170.5 points. The Knights' Zach Parker won the 182-pound title, defeating Rochelle's Eli Keating by fall in the championship match.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Spartans lose: North Scott (Iowa) defeated Sycamore, 56-44, at the Manny's Shootout, hosted by West Carroll.

Lauren Goff led the Spartans with 15 points and Bailey Gilbert finished with 14.

BOYS SWIMMING

Co-op wins invite: The DeKalb-Sycamore co-op won the 16-team Rockford Jefferson Invitational with a score of 267.

Daniel Hein won the 100 butterfly and the 100 backstroke for the co-op, while Ryan Schultz took home titles in the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke.

The 200 medley relay of Hein, Schultz, Dylan Powers and Holden Mackey earned a first-place finish, as did the 400 freestyle relay of Powers, Michael Carlson, Jacob Bjork and Hein.

"The strong competition made for several career and season bests," co-op coach Leah Eames said. "The times posted today were extremely motivating as we approach our championship season. If the boys can perform as strong as they are in season, it's hard not to look forward to what they will do tapered."

Spartans compete at Fenton: Sycamore finished with a pinfall total of 4,914 to finish 15th at the Fenton Invite:

BOYS BASKETBALL

Royals pick up conference win: Hinckley-Big Rock defeated LaMoille, 53-34. The Royals were led in scoring by Dutch Schneeman with a game-high 20 points.

Hawks lose conference game: Hiawatha lost, 71-28, at home against Newark in a Little Ten Conference game.

WRESTLING

Cogs drop dual: Genoa-Kingston lost to Woodstock, 42-27, on the road. Christian Ordlock, Joe Murray, Danny Peters, Anthony Lacko, Nick Cotham and Brent Dehmlow all recorded wins for the Cogs.
