Need for blood donations increased in January

January is typically the highest transfusion month of the year as patients who can delay their non-emergency surgeries and treatments do so until after the holidays. Heartland Blood Centers of DeKalb will hold several blood drives in January.

Anytime Fitness is sponsoring a blood drive from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at 901 S. Annie Glidden Road in Heartland’s Mobile Coach. To schedule a donation, call 815-748-5900, sign up at the fitness center or online at www.heartlandbc.org. Walk-ins are welcome. All donors will receive a complimentary two-week pass if non-members and a free month of tanning or a free fitness consultation for existing members.

Kirkland Lions Club is sponsoring a blood drive from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Kirkland Fire Department at 3891 Route 72, Kirkland in the Hall. To schedule a donation, call 815-519-0578 and leave a message with desired donation time or sign up online at www.heartlandbc.org. Walk-ins are welcome. A photo ID is required. All first-time donors will receive a $10 gift certificate and existing donors will receive a $5 gift certificate at Kirkland Family Restaurant as a thank-you – compliments of Dean Miller at Country Financial.

Kishwaukee Kiwanis Club is sponsoring a blood drive from 3 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the First Congregational UCC at 615 N. First St., DeKalb, in Hearthland’s Mobile Coach. To schedule a donation, call 815-758-0691 or sign up online at www.heartlandbc.org. Walk-ins are welcome. A photo ID is required. All donors will earn points to redeem for online gift cards and a variety of premium gifts in the Warm Hearts Club.

Malta Elementary School is hosting a blood drive from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the school’s cafeteria at 5068 State Route 38 in Malta. To schedule a donation, call the school at 815-754-2970 or sign up online at  www.heartlandbc.org. Walk-ins are welcome. All donors will receive a Heartland Sports Back Pack as a thank-you.

Prairie Crossing: A Supportive Living Community is sponsoring a blood drive from 2 to 7 p.m. Jan. 27 at 407 W. Comanche Ave., Shabbona. To schedule a donation, call Julie at 815-824-8480 or sign up online at www.heartlandbc.org. Walk-ins are welcome. As a thank-you, all donors will receive a gift bag provided by Prairie Crossing.
