Prep roundup: Sycamore girls basketball wins four consecutive game

The Sycamore girls basketball team won its fourth consecutive game with a 59-32 win over Morris in Northern Illinois Big 12 East play Thursday night at home.

Bailey Gilbert led the Spartans (13-4, 4-0 NI Big 12 East) with 23 points, including 8 for 8 from the free-throw line and seven rebounds. Lauren Goff had 13 points and Taiya Hopkins and Kayley Aase chipped in with six points each. 

“We played very well from beginning to end again, which is nice,” Sycamore coach Brett Goff said. “We’re putting together some complete games on both ends of the floor.”

H-BR defense steps up: Hinckley-Big Rock held Earlville-Leland to only 12 points in a 38-12 victory in Little Ten Conference play.

Karrigan Cowan led the Royals (10-11, 5-2 LTC) with 10 points and Jacqueline Madden had nine.

Indian Creek beats Somonauk: Indian Creek defeated Somonauk, 50-32, in an LTC matchup at home.

The Timberwolves (11-9, 5-2) were led by Josie Diehl, who had 18 points and nine rebounds.

Alexis Van Wyhe had 11 points in the victory.

Cogs fall: Genoa-Kingston fell to North Boone, 64-49, in a Big Northern Conference East matchup.

Andrea Strohmaier led the Cogs with 13 points, and Katie Thurlby and Tori Bennett each had 11 for G-K (5-13, 1-5).

“I thought we played with a lot of effort. We just gave them 23 out of their 64 points from the free-throw line,” G-K coach Kyle Henkel said. “Once we start taking care of the basketball and valuing possessions, we’re going to be right where we want to be.”

GIRLS BOWLING

Sycamore tops Sterling: Sycamore defeated Sterling, 3,109-2,845, to win the series and claim eight of 10 points in an NI Big 12 matchup at Four Seasons in Sycamore.

Alexis Kolberg led the way with a 615 series that included games of 210 and 229.

Kelly Drake bowled consistently to record a 501 series, while Morgan Jones had a494 series, including a game of 197.

Kaneland edges IMSA: Kaneland defeated IMSA in the overall series, 2,080-1,863, as Dominque Lee rolled a 447 series for the Knights.
