Contemplative prayer group meets in DeKalb

Published: Friday, Jan. 17, 2014 5:30 a.m. CST

Contemplative Outreach is sponsoring a weekly centering prayer group in DeKalb, held from 5 to 6:15 p.m. each Wednesday at First Congregational United Church of Christ.

The usual format of the group includes 20 minutes sitting in silence, a brief contemplative walk, then another 20 minutes of silence, followed by a short discussion. This is a opportunity to learn more about contemplative prayer and to share this prayer in an ecumenical setting. Newcomers are always welcome.

Contemplative Outreach is a spiritual network of individuals and small faith communities committed to living the contemplative dimension of the Gospel. It is an international, interdenominational community, which teaches more than 15,000 people annually, as well as publishing and distributing resources that support the contemplative life.

The church is located at 615 N. First St. in DeKalb.
